Presentation Selected for Hometown Heroes Banner

Dear Presentation Alumnae and Community,

We are excited to announce that Hometown Heroes has selected Presentation Academy to display the next banner recognizing an esteemed honorary alum and renowned Louisville figure.

John Asher H’10, the former Vice President of Racing Communications at Churchill Downs, was a true icon in Louisville. As an ambassador for both Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby, he also exhibited unwavering support for Presentation Academy.

Above all, John was a proud Pres dad. Together with his wife, Deidra, they sent all three of their daughters–Heather '98, Erin '11, and Emma '14—to Presentation. He passionately supported their involvement in various activities, particularly in volleyball and field hockey.

John's commitment extended beyond his family. He served on Presentation’s Board of Trustees and chaired the Marketing Committee. He also co-chaired Presentation’s inaugural capital campaign, the Tower Vision Capital Campaign, which successfully raised funds to build the Arts and Athletics Center. Additionally, John emceed Presentation’s leadership speaker series, contributing significantly to our leadership program.

A prominent figure in the Louisville community, John took every opportunity to promote Presentation during events and public speaking engagements.

"John Asher was the perfect choice to receive the title of honorary alum," said Barbara Flanders Wine '67, former principal and current Board of Trustees vice chair. "His love for Pres began when his first daughter, Heather, walked through our iconic doors as a freshman. His devotion to the school continued through the years that Erin and Emma were students here. However, after his girls graduated, John became even more involved, volunteering countless hours and sharing his passion for the school with the Louisville community. All who knew John were introduced to the Pres story. He truly held Presentation Academy close to his heart. He often quipped that he lived the Pres Girl experience vicariously through his girls. John possessed such a kind and giving spirit that he shared so generously with Pres."

We are honored to celebrate John’s legacy by displaying his Hometown Heroes banner on our building. The unveiling will take place on the corner of Fourth & Breckinridge on Monday, October 27, at 1 p.m. during a news conference. All are welcome to attend.

The Greater Louisville Pride Foundation launched the Hometown Heroes project in 2002 to honor a diverse group of Louisvillians from various professions, all of whom have inspired others and represented our community to the world. These giant banners are essentially works of public art, proudly displayed throughout the Louisville metro area, with several located downtown.

We are grateful to be a part of this beloved community initiative and invite you to visit Fourth and Breck to see John’s banner and to celebrate how his legacy continues.

Warm regards,

Amy Skretny Fowler, Ed.D
