Leadership Pathways

More than an Education, Pathways to the Future
ACADEMIC CHOICES AND PATHWAYS TO EXCELLENCE

Presentation Academy is proud to announce a new focus to its 28-year innovative Leadership Program which will highlight six career pathways beginning in the 2023-2024 school year. The pathways available to all students will be Health Science, Engineering, Entrepreneurship, Criminal Justice, Visual/Performing Arts and Academic Exploration.

In addition to these formalized concentrations, our counselors help students choose courses and plan their class schedule, so it meets their interest and goals as well as the appropriate academic challenge. Through our diverse elective offerings, all Pres students are empowered to choose pathways that inspire them, build confidence, and help with goal setting.

Health Science: This pathway is designed to immerse students in classes and work-based learning that will allow them to explore medical careers. Students enrolled in the program are given multiple unique opportunities for education and future employment including earning an Industry Certification while in high school; a hands-on, work-based education to explore fields in the healthcare industry, working in specific medical field positions right out of high school; and a pathway for obtaining a bachelor’s degree at a reduced cost. This career path is largely partnering with KY HealthCorps.

Engineering: Traditional mathematics and science courses are combined with on-site opportunities, digital resources and classroom visits to introduce students to the scope, rigor and discipline of engineering prior to entering college. Students will have the opportunity to engage with Pres alumnae who are studying engineering at colleges across the country. On-the-job experiences are available through SummerWorks.

Entrepreneurship: This pathway is designed for students interested in creating and leading business ventures. They will become familiar with organizations and entrepreneurs through various service-learning projects and site visits to alumnae-owned businesses. Students will begin to develop skills demonstrated by successful entrepreneurs, including team building, leadership, negotiation and working in complex social and cultural environments.

Criminal Justice: Careers in criminal justice include law enforcement, corrections, and court law. Students will have the opportunity to learn about related occupations, take relevant courses, hear from those in the field, visit courtrooms, etc. Students will have the opportunity to participate in Spalding University’s Criminal Justice Day and shadow college courses in criminal justice.

Visual/Performing Arts: Emphasis will be placed on exposing students to a variety of arts through active experiences in various art forms and developing further understanding and appreciation of the historical and cultural significance of media arts, music, theater and visual arts. Participants will have the opportunity to take courses in drawing, painting, digital photo, design studies, photography, sculpture, ceramics, theater, etc. The focus in these courses will be on the importance of process and the effort and energy it takes to create.

Academic Exploration: This pathway is designed to provide a solid foundation for all educational experiences beyond high school, including opportunities to prepare for academic success in college and/or to learn the skills of a trade. Through a varied curriculum, students are challenged to function at competency levels commensurate with their abilities and interests. They are given the responsibility of organizing their time, and they play an active role in obtaining the best education possible. Students meeting specific academic requirements may apply to take courses at Spalding University and Jefferson Community & Technical College (JCTC).
