Theology I
1 Credit – 2 semesters Required course for 9th grade Semester 1: The Revelation of Jesus Christ in Scripture This course will provide students with a general knowledge and appreciation of the Sacred Scriptures. Students will encounter the living Word of God and learn about how the Bible is authored by God through Inspiration and its value to people throughout the world. Semester 2: Who is Jesus Christ? This course is designed to introduce students to the mystery of Jesus Christ, the Living Word of God, the Second Person of the Trinity, and the Revelation to us from God. In learning about Jesus, the students will also learn who he calls them to be. Freshman Service: Ten hours of service at up to three different non-profit agencies. Theology II 1 Credit – 2 semesters Required course for 10th grade Semester 1: The Mission of Jesus Christ (The Paschal Mystery) This course is designed to help students understand all that God has done for us through his Son, Jesus Christ. Students will learn that God has a plan for us to share eternal happiness, which is accomplished through the redemption Christ won for us. They will also be introduced to what it means to be a disciple of Christ and what that entails. Semester 2: Jesus Christ’s Mission Continues in the Church This course focuses on the fact that in and through the Church, we encounter the living Christ. Students will be introduced to the events and sacred nature of the Church as they come to know that the Church is the living Body of Christ today. Sophomore Service: Fifteen hours of service – ten can be completed at no more than two different non-profit agencies and the remaining five hours must be completed at Presentation Academy. |
Theology III
1 Credit – 2 Semesters Required course for 11th grade Semester I: Sacraments as Privileged Encounters with Jesus Christ This course is designed to help students understand that they can encounter Christ today in a full and real way in and through the sacraments, and especially through the Eucharist. Students will examine each of the sacraments in detail so as to learn how they may encounter Christ throughout life. Semester 2: Life in Jesus Christ The purpose of this course is to help students understand that it is only through Christ that they can fully live out God’s plans for their lives. Students are to learn the moral concepts and precepts that govern the lives of Christ’s disciples. Junior Service: Twenty hours of works of mercy at one non-profit agency in the community. Theology IV 1 Credit – 2 Semesters Required course for 12th grade Semester 1: Living as a Disciple of Jesus Christ in Society The purpose of this course is to introduce students to the roots and traditions of the Church’s social teaching. Students will learn how Christ’s concern for others, especially the poor and needy, is present today in the Church’s social teaching and mission. Semester 2: Ecumenical and Interreligious Issues This course is designed to help students understand the manner in which the Catholic Church relates to non-Catholic Christians as well as to other religions of the world by examining various spiritual truths, beliefs and practices. Senior Service: Twenty-Five hours of service at one non-profit social justice agency in the community. |
