This year’s recipient is Sicilia Giacalone. Sicilia has always been a competitive force on our swim team, qualifying several years for state competition. This year, she joined the lacrosse team and served as a leader on the field, all while excelling academically. Vivian Dunlevy Good Sportsmanship Award - Mara Bryan The Vivian Dunlevy Good Sportsmanship Award is presented annually to a student athlete who best exemplifies the qualities of positive leadership on the playing field and in the classroom, dedication to her sport, good sportsmanship, and school spirit. This award was named after Vivian Dunlevy, a pioneer in women’s sports in the state of Kentucky who taught and coached at Presentation for nearly 40 years. This year’s recipient is Mara Bryan. As a 4-year member of our volleyball team, Mara displays wisdom and leadership while mentoring her younger classmates and teammates–both on the court and in the classroom. Outstanding Student Athlete Award - Addi Croslin The Outstanding Student Athlete Award is given to a student who has earned widespread recognition for her commitment to her sport, including post-secondary opportunities. This year’s recipient is Addi Croslin. Although Addi did not golf competitively until high school, she has qualified for the state tournament consecutively for 3 years. Outside of school, Addi has completed a golf internship, is an assistant pro at Audubon Country Club and is working towards her PGA certification. Topper Award - Peyton Nauert The Topper Award is the top athletic award and is given to an individual with the highest level of commitment to Presentation athletics, excelling in more than one sport. The recipient must also be a solid student, role model, and recognized by the athletic community as an accomplished athlete. This year’s Topper Award recipient is Peyton Nauert. As a volleyball, basketball, and softball player, Peyton has earned many accolades. Most impressively…this year, she became the first player in Pres history to reach 1000 kills in volleyball and 1000 points in basketball. No matter the season, Peyton is a fierce competitor on the court, and she leads her team with grace. Congrats, Peyton, and thank you for your commitment to Pres athletics. Sr. Mary Ruth McFarland - Jolie Parker The Sr. Mary Ruth McFarland award was established in honor of Sister Mary Ruth, who, as Presentation’s music instructor, dedicated 40 years of service to this program. This year’s recipient is Jolie Parker. Jolie has been an excellent Chorus member throughout her time at Pres, and she has shown great care and commitment to both Chorus and the Prezettes. Your beautiful voice will be missed next year, Jolie. "The Becca" - Alice Beatty ”The Becca” is an award that was established in honor of Rebecca Crabtree, who died unexpectedly during her senior year of 1999. Each year, this award is given to a member of the Drama Club who exhibits outstanding technical performance in theater productions. This year’s recipient is Alice Beatty. Alice has become one of the most versatile members of our company, from scenic design to acting to directing. Even when in a lead role onstage, Alice made every effort to assist with painting and offer design ideas. "The Frannie" - Darcy Komp “The Frannie” is named after our beloved Frannie Smith who lost her life in a 1993 skiing accident. Frannie’s gentle, guiding spirit is very much still with us. Each year, this drama award is presented to a graduating senior and member of the drama club who has participated in at least three theater productions, works well with others, and shows leadership and cooperation. This year’s recipient is Darcy Komp. Darcy has taken on each role given to her and always made them her own. She would go above and beyond when taking on additional projects like graphic design, organizing volunteers and following up with them, and providing valuable insight and ideas to how we do things. Darcy unflinchingly takes on any hurdles put in her path and strives to hit the highest, or lowest in the case of Warbucks, note set in front of her. Academic Honors Third Honors: Jolie Parker & Molly Sharber Class Salutatorian: Emma Becker & Jenna Roberts Class Valedictorian: Sofia Luchini Digital Media Award - Emily Muncy and Sicilia Giacalone The Digital Media Award is given to one student in Design Studies and one student in Digital Photography who has illustrated creativity and originality in those classes. This year the award is given to Emily Muncy and Sicilia Giacalone. These young women have exhibited advanced skills in using the creative software and have demonstrated a strong work ethic. Exceptional in Art Award - Katie Kaelin The Exceptional in Art Award is given to a senior art student who has demonstrated a strong work ethic in an advanced art class this year. She possesses the attitude and creative drive to develop her artistic skills beyond the classroom for her personal growth as an artist. This year the award is given to: Katie Kaelin. This young woman has continually challenged herself to grow as an artist. Outstanding Senior English Student Award - Jaiden Jennings and Emily Muncy Now for English...the Outstanding Senior English Student Award is given for consistent, exemplary performance in senior English. This year’s recipients are Jaiden Jennings & Emily Muncy. Jaiden and Emily have consistently worked really hard and offered insightful analysis in writing and discussion. Outstanding Senior Math Award - Jenna Roberts and Emma Becker The Outstanding Senior Math Award is given to the outstanding senior who has achieved excellence in math for 4 years. This year’s recipients are Jenna Roberts & Emma Becker. Jenna and Emma have demonstrated the highest level of achievement in their math classes during their years at Pres. Sue Ratkowski Science Achievement Award - Jaiden Jennings The Sue Ratkowski Science Achievement Award is named after a longtime Presentation supporter who believed strongly in giving women more opportunities to excel in science. This award is given to a senior who excels in science, shows a love for the subject, and demonstrates a genuine interest in science through extracurricular involvement. This year’s recipients are Jaiden Jennings. Jaiden has consistently demonstrated high academic achievement and curiosity in both her science courses and extracurricular activities. Spanish Achievement Award - Alice Beatty The Spanish Achievement Award is given to a senior who excels not just in learning the Spanish language, but also in understanding the cultural aspects of the course. This year’s recipient is Alice Beatty. Through four years of study, Alice has excelled in Spanish and been an excellent resource for her classmates. Alice Paul Excellence in Social Studies Award - Sicilia Giacalone The Alice Paul Excellence in Social Studies Award is being awarded to someone who has shown consistent and far-reaching interest in the subject of social studies. This year’s recipient is Sicilia Giacalone. Sicilia has shown a genuine interest and curiosity in social studies throughout the past four years. Her passion for understanding both our history and our present has inspired her classmates. Christian Life Award - Lily Norton The Christian Life Award is given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated qualities of personal character and academic achievement in Theology. Traditionally, this award recognizes the successful combination of extraordinary service to Church and community. This year’s recipient is Lily Norton. Lily puts her faith into action every day in her school and community. Sister Edna Fabre Award - Alex Garcia-Lopez The Sister Edna Fabre Award was established in honor of our beloved Sr. Edna, and it is given to a senior who demonstrates the qualities of Sr. Edna, who has a passion for social justice, and who quietly works behind the scenes to help those in need. This year’s recipient is Alex Garcia Lopez. Throughout her time at Pres, Alex has volunteered with La Casita, Hand in Hand Ministries, and several other organizations. Her commitment to service and social justice has not gone unnoticed. Mayor’s Outstanding Senior Award - Alex Garcia Lopez Each year, the mayor’s office honors outstanding seniors in Jefferson County. This year’s recipient from Presentation is Alex Garcia Lopez. Last night, Alex was honored at an awards ceremony at Iroquois Amphitheater. Alex was chosen for her commitment to service both at Pres and within the wider community. One teacher says, “Alex makes everyone, freshman to senior, feel welcome, acknowledged, and seen. Her commitment to serving not just her school, but the greater community, is unparalleled.” Be The Light Award - Molly Sharber As most of you know, this year’s school theme is BE THE LIGHT. This BE THE LIGHT Award is given to a senior who is not only courageous enough to see the light, but is also courageous enough to BE THE LIGHT. This year’s recipient is Molly Sharber. One classmate says, “I’ve never met someone with quite as much compassion and love in their heart. Molly could make anyone smile and turns any bad situation into a good one.” Congratulations, Molly, and thank you for being the light. Nazareth Award - Shanya Bibbs The Nazareth Award was created to recognize a senior who has reached across all grade levels to give support and leadership to others in a selfless manner. This award celebrates the hospitality, mission, diversity, inclusivity, and values initiated by Mother Catherine Spalding and the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth. This year’s recipient is Shanya Bibbs. A teacher says, “Shay has always been one to be a big sister to any one she meets. She has such confidence in herself that she tries to instill in everyone around her. The girls in every grade look up to her and think of her as family.” Another teacher says, “Shay has committed herself to reaching out to others and doing the hard work to make Pres a better place.” Sr. Rose Riley Award - Lily Norton The Sr. Rose Riley Award is bestowed upon a student for outstanding contributions to both her school and local community. This year’s recipient is Lily Norton. Lily has served Presentation unselfishly during her four years, sometimes on stage rapping, other times in the background. A teacher says, “Lily is kind, caring, courageous, dependable, and hardworking. She is not afraid to be herself and stand up for what she believes in. A classmate says, “Lily is an icon. She makes everyone feel like they’re included and part of something. If you need to get something done, Lily knows how to make it happen.” Congratulations, Lily, and thank you for your dedication to your school and community. Miss Presentation - Alice Beatty The title of Miss Presentation is bestowed upon a senior who embodies the qualities of service, school spirit, personal responsibility, collaboration, strong character, and competency in academics. This young woman’s manner reflects a caring spirit. She knows the true meaning of hard work, teamwork, and responsibility. This year’s Miss Presentation is Alice Beatty. One teacher says, “Alice is the definition of what Mother Catherine would've wanted to see in our students: Talented, kind, humble, and compassionate. ” A classmate says, “Alice always has a smile on her face. She always builds up the people around her and makes everyone feel welcomed and included. She embodies the true meaning of what it is to be a Pres girl in every way I can think of. ” Congratulations, Alice--and thank you for your commitment to your school community. Educator of the Year Award - Jenna Ruth The Educator of the Year Award was created by the Wintergerst family to honor the memory of Carolyn Wintergerst Weston, who passed away in 2018. Carolyn graduated from Presentation in 1995 and epitomized the qualities of a “Pres Girl.” The foundation that she received at Pres led her to pursue a career in special education where she was able to touch the lives of countless children – inspiring them with her motto “You can do it!” Carolyn’s commitment to her faith, positive attitude, passion for learning and helping those with special needs, as well as her love of soccer, art, music and fun continued throughout her life as an alum, educator, mother, daughter, sister, wife and friend. This award is given to a member of the Presentation Academy faculty, staff, or administration who has demonstrates a commitment to the service of the individual student and the entire Presentation community through his or her own unselfish giving of time and talent. The Wintergerst family has provided a gift for this award in honor of Carolyn's memory as she was an outstanding educator who made an impact on thousands of students’ lives. This person must live out the mission of the school. The 2022 recipient is Jenna Ruth. One student says, “Not only has Ms. Ruth been an excellent math teacher, but she's been a teacher I can always come to for anything. Whether it be to ask for a teacher recommendation or to rant about trivial teenage girl things, Ms. Ruth never fails to be there for me. This year, she has helped me figure out how to get back to normal after COVID. ” Another student says, “Ms. Ruth makes me feel welcomed, included, and like I can do math.” Thank you, Ms. Ruth, for your commitment to Pres’ mission and to all of your students.
