Louisville, KY (June 30, 2022) - Presentation Academy has raised more than $200,000 in seven months, completing and exceeding the $190,000 Campaign for Capital Projects and Scholarships in honor of the school’s 190th Anniversary.
Louisville’s original Catholic school, Presentation kicked off its 190th Anniversary celebration in November with a news conference and proclamation by Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer. In the spring, dozens of named scholarships were awarded to current and incoming students succeeding in academics, leadership, service, and more. The new Tillie Edelen Gibson ‘58 Scholarship will be awarded over the summer in honor of Presentation’s first Black graduate. Capital projects completed since the start of the campaign include sealing and winterizing the windows of the historic Tower atop the academic building; doubling the number of solar panels on the roof of the Arts and Athletic Center, now totaling 96 panels; and protecting the façade through brick tucking. “We have called Fourth and Breck our home since 1893, so of course, the building is an important part about what makes Pres special,” President Laura Dills ‘94 said. “Freshmen enter the historic front doors on their first day of school and will not use those steps again until their last day of senior year. The senior steps are off limits to underclassmen, and the iconic tower is filled with the signatures of generations of proud Pres Girls.” Founded by Mother Catherine Spalding and the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth, Presentation Academy is a college preparatory school located in downtown Louisville. This past school year, students in the Class of 2022 were accepted to 80 colleges and universities, including historically Black colleges and universities and other prestigious schools. More than one-third of Presentation’s graduates stayed close to home and shared their talents with Louisville-area colleges and universities. The Class of 2022 earned more than $7.8 million in scholarships and performed more than 4,500 hours of community service. Presentation Academy strives to ensure that any young woman who wants to attend has the opportunity. Currently, Pres assists 65% of families by offering financial assistance and scholarships through the generous help of our supporters. For the 2021-2022 school year, Presentation awarded $887,135 in financial aid through tuition assistance, need-based scholarships, and merit-based scholarships. The average amount awarded was $7,040—approximately half of Presentation’s tuition. Gifts to the 190th Anniversary campaign can be made at www.presentationacademy.org/annual-fund. Donations will be used for continued capital improvements and expanded scholarships. For more information, visit www.presentationacademy.org or call (502) 583-5935.
