Career Exploration Opportunities

Freshmen
Career assessment taken with results given and explained.

Sophomores & Juniors
Sophomores and juniors have the opportunity to shadow professionals in three different careers of interest. Following their shadowing experience, they have the opportunity to be mentored in one of these areas. During the 2009-2010 school year, Presentation students shadowed or were mentored by professionals in these fields:

Seniors
Seniors have the opportunity to do an internship in a chosen career and gain high school credit. Some internships have included the following fields:

Internship Leads Shannon Shaughnessy to Meeting with “Top Model” Judge Nigel Barker

A summer internship through Presentation Academy led student Shannon Shaughnessy to a meeting and lunch with fashion photographer Nigel Barker, who serves as a judge on the popular “America’s Next Top Model” reality show on The CW network.

Shaughnessy’s meeting with the reality show star came during a two-week internship with local freelance fashion consultant Jo Ross. The 17-year-old helped Ross conduct a “Fashion Camp” for girls ages 6-12 at The Summit retail center in eastern Jefferson County.

Business Partnerships
Norton Healthcare, Baptist Hospital East and a variety of businesses provide opportunities for shadowing, being mentored, and internships. In addition a number of businesses provide seminars on a variety of topics for Presentation students. These include:
