Celebrating 175 Years Of Leadership
Posted: November 9, 2006 This year marks 175 years of tradition, education, leadership, and service at Presentation Academy. As the oldest continuously operating secondary educational institution in Louisville, Presentation survived the Civil War, two world wars, the cholera epidemic of 1832, two fires, and the flood of 1937. In 1831, when Mother Catherine Spalding founded Pres, Andrew Jackson served as president and Nat Turner unsuccessfully led a slave rebellion in Virginia. Since then, Pres students have witnessed the end of slavery, the rise and fall of prohibition, the assassinations of four presidents, the passage of the 19th Amendment, desegregation, and the first human steps on the moon.
To honor Pres and all that it stands for in this, its 175th year, a number of celebratory events have been planned. In addition to the distribution of a commemorative issue of The Tower, book, pins, and other merchandise, there will be “Homecoming to the Tower” events held in the months of November and December. On Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at 6:00 pm, a special mass at the Cathedral of the Assumption will honor the anniversary. All are invited to attend this historic celebration.
